Have a 08 535 XIT and was wondering if there are any brake upgrades possible using BMW parts. I looked up realoem and they show larger disc and different calipers even for a 2wd 535. I assume this is due to the extra drive shafts, but are there any other models where the caliper/disc/carriers can be bolted on without issues from the 4wd? I am running 18" style 124, so hope there is something that will fit.
Actually I am surprised that the wagon has smaller brake parts given it's ease of loading of larger items... that's another issue.
Thanks.

I may be mistaken but on my 535I (08 sport pack) when I had it they were the same breaks as the Msport package 550i's, only the 528's and the wagons had the smaller breaks. Those things were pretty good even at auto X's, just needed to change the pads that puked less dust.
The M5 breaks will also work but require the bigger M5 wheels for the caliper clearance.

My 535d also having the same brakes as the 550. Front: 348x36 Rear: 345x24mm. Only M5 have bigger discs.
I bought mine here:

They are drilled and slotted. And are a very good upgrade compare to the oem brakes.

The E60 and E61 with 4wd are running 324x30F and 320x20R. The hub/knuckle design are different to accomodate the extra driveshafts. I was looking to see if larger disc/rotor set ups were available from other models without going to adapter mounts.

My original question was if four wheel drive can have upgrades made to the braking system. The answers all appear to be related to rear drive vehicle and not 4WD running on 43mm offset wheels with a drive shaft going through the hubs. Anyone with knowledge or actual experience on XI or XIT models?

My Ride: 08 535xiT - Sapphire Black / Beige
Wanted to bump this thread as it looks like nell never actually got an answer. Found that StopTech makes a cross-drilled and slotted rotor for 535xiTs. Has anyone installed these? Any other options out there that people have installed on their AWD E61s? I'm running stock 17s in the winter and looking to go to 18's for summer tires [as sweet as 19's look, think the ride would be too harsh, especially on New York City roads], so rotors would need to fit in 17 inch rims.
