just spray on the rubber seals and wipe the excess away from the surrounding parts ?
That's how I do it.

Interesting. I haven't had any problems with the sunroof, other than when the sliding part of the headliner is open, I get some noise. That is probably also due to driving over uneven, ice and snow covered roads. With the sliding headliner/roof closed, I do not notice any extra noise.

Anyway, the silicone spray sounds like good, preventative maintenance. I will do this when I get my car back from BMW.

I thought bmw's are allergic to silicone
Are you guys absolutely shure that is what we have to apply to our seals...?

I almost beg to differ that we should use something else that silicone. How about teflon spray or something...?

Hold on! I didn't say you should use silicon... What you need to do regularily is to rub in the rubber so that it stays clean and remains its flexibility. I use BMW's "Gummipflege" with good result.

You guys are scaring me now. I have a brand new 2009 and that sunroof is the coolest thing! Lets in the world and the sunshine. I hope they've got things figured out with this year. My car only has 1000 miles and has only been opened closed 1/2 dozen times (it's winter) and it seems to work excellent (for 6 openings!).

Anyway, without the solid cover, the noise is very noticeable. Plus as a bicycle racer, I have 3 bike racks on top, when it's open, it's brutal with all that stuff I have but I knew that would happen going in.
I guess that's what the volume knob on the stereo is for.
