Hi
I've bought used 2004 530d e61, and every aprox. 5th time when I enter my car I hear loud rattling noise from the cd-dvd unit... Sometimes it stops after 3-4 seconds, other times after aprox 10 seconds. There is no rule in the occurrence or duration. Does anyone have the same problem or know the solution how to get rid of it?

Do you know if the unit was replaced or removed at some point? I had that issue after installing an ipod interface so I think it could be due to not being fitted good enough. I later replaced my unit with a nav unit so I cannot really say I solved the problem on the old one.
Could maybe also be due to something inside being misaligned but I had my nav unit shipped from Australia to Sweden without being very well packed so it should not be that sensitive in terms of handling.
Try taking it out and make sure all connectors are properly fitted and have good contact. Takes only some 15min and there are good DIYs here on the forum. No specal tools required.

Mine does it but not very often. Very costly to replace. Have found that giving it a thump with fist stops the noise until another time. Luckily the incidence is getting less frequent.

Few days ago strange thing happend... I've entered the car, rattle started, I've ejected both cd and dvd right away (they were out of the unit completly) and I can still hear the rattle for about 3 sec.
Strange... I tought that cd or dvd disc was making the noise in the mechanism...hm
