Ok, here's something to get you started....
Product positioning against the competition / CO2 emissions / tax limits in key markets / insurance levels / product evolution..... the list goes on mate!

(p.s. Mrs MacSid, I know you like to look in here every now and again... you shouldn't be reading THIS post!! ...I hope all is going well )

I don't have the issue of Auto Bild (Finnish language version) any more about this, but...

They tested about 9 different "chip" tuning chips in three different diesel cars, and compared a bunch of different results. Basically, comparing what the chip tuning companies claimed vs the magazine's real world experience. The results were quite shocking: only one actually made as much or more Nm of torque than claimed, and as I recall, three actually were worse than stock. Fuel economy was mixed, and one serious issue came up was that of the damned DPF over-heating or even failing due to heat.

Wetterauer was one of the companies that they tested. I remember this because a friend of mine wanted to use their chip for his AUDI, and after having my E46 320d chip tuned by them, I talked him out of it. He got a re-map instead and plans to do the same with his silly 270 CDI.

Wetterauer's warranty is also a bit strange depending on the age of your car. Granted, I have an extremely over-priced ACS diesel power upgrade, but at least they warranty the hell out of everything in the powertrain.

Anyway, make sure that you do your research thoroughly! And I am sure that you will.

I am talking about a "re-map" and not a "chip". Are saying that you had issues with Wetterauer? In the German forums, I did not read issues about them.

As for the results, part of the package includes your car going on the test rig so that they can take measurements of power & torque, i.e. confirm the increase and give a you a print-out.

My car is 3.5 years old and has 99000km, so no-one is going to give me warranty. They typically only do up to 100000km.

Ok, I haven't actually read through the Wetterauer web site in ages, so they probably have some new products since 2002! Mine was not a re-map, it was some sort of removable "box" that installed in about 10 minutes.

And the AB magazine article came out about 3-4 years ago.

If they will get your car up on a rig and test it out, then this is a different animal than what I had. No issues, other than I wasn't exactly impressed with the seat of the pants results after spending 600 Euros for it!

I have an LCI 525D which has 194hp standard.I am looking at a remap which will increase power to 230hp and torque to 480nm but will also increase economy.
In the UK we have emaps (www.e-maps.co.uk) that has a first class reputation. First found him on BMWland.co.uk where there isn't a single bad word said about him. He works with a reputable German source for the development work and specialises in BMWs.

I don't want to go on but am happy to receive pm's if anyone wants to know more, or contact e-maps direct and speak to Simon.

My e61 535d posted 14 second quarter miles at Santa Pod and embarassed a few others in the process

Having had the LCI Automatic in my previous 5er, the 525dA, driving the pre-LCI Automatic in my current 5er is pretty frustrating to say the least. It changes down a gear almost every time you tap the pedal... and my wife is pretty p*ssed off with it. Not good. I told her that I could remove the Sprint Booster to improve it a little, but she said No Way to me removing the SB... good girl!! So yesterday in the car whilst she was complaining again about the Automatic changing down too easily/much, I told her that a remap would sort it and that it would mean we get 260bhp instead of 218bhp, as well as better fuel efficiency. Her reaction: "wow, really, better fuel efficiency, better automatic and more power. Shall I take the car to be remapped whilst you're on your next business trip to Germany?" My reaction, milli-seconds later, YES!

I just hope the Automatic really is better after this remap, otherwise my plan of working her toward the idea of a V8 could take a bit of a set back

I am planning on getting the Wetterauer remap. They are a reputable German tuner and the price seems ok. Anyone have experience with these Remaps?

power before: 218 hp at 4000 rpm ..... power after: 260 hp at 4000 rpm
torque before: 500 Nm at 1750 rpm ..... torque after: 580 Nm at 2000 rpm
top speed before: 242 km/h .............. top speed after: 250 km/h (incl. Limiter removed)
price: ?680.-

...oh yes!!

I told her yesterday that I just ordered a new handbrake from Trinity/Nerwyll, she just grinned..... and then told me she'd be shopping too It works both ways

At some stage I should probably introduce her to Mel, so she can learn about how great a V8 would be....

I think people appreciate the 5er Touring is quick, but there's probably something inside them that doesn't quite understand how a "family car" can be THAT quick --- good work

In 2 weeks time my 5er will be remapped from 218ps/500nm to 260ps/580nm.... I mean, cough the automatic will handle better and we'll save fuel cough

Hey Pete!
Exellent news about this remap!!
Could you tell us if this discount they mentioned applies to all their shops in Germany, or any particular ones?
And for how long is it available? I am personally very tempted by 200hp in my 520d...

And, speaking of mods, I finally got NAV Pro installed couple days ago! Here's my small review
So, I'm in the mood for more treats for my E60-baby

Quick Reply: My wife thinks we should get the 5er remapped
