Having had the LCI Automatic in my previous 5er, the 525dA, driving the pre-LCI Automatic in my current 5er is pretty frustrating to say the least. It changes down a gear almost every time you tap the pedal... and my wife is pretty p*ssed off with it. Not good. I told her that I could remove the Sprint Booster to improve it a little, but she said No Way to me removing the SB... good girl!! So yesterday in the car whilst she was complaining again about the Automatic changing down too easily/much, I told her that a remap would sort it and that it would mean we get 260bhp instead of 218bhp, as well as better fuel efficiency. Her reaction: "wow, really, better fuel efficiency, better automatic and more power. Shall I take the car to be remapped whilst you're on your next business trip to Germany?" My reaction, milli-seconds later, YES!

I just hope the Automatic really is better after this remap, otherwise my plan of working her towards the idea of a V8 could take a bit of a set back

I am planning on getting the Wetterauer remap. They are a reputable German tuner and the price seems ok. Anyone have experience with these Remaps?

power before: 218 hp at 4000 rpm ..... power after: 260 hp at 4000 rpm

top speed before: 242 km/h .............. top speed after: 250 km/h (incl. Limiter removed)

Excellent negotiation skills.

its not just technical skills and pointers that you learn here in the forum

maybe we need a "convince your better half DIY section" for all the different types of mods?

That is an impressive HP gain on this remap. It's also a bit costly...but not unreasonable! Let us know how it works out for you!

I like the HP gains too!
As for the cost, I guess I would be paying for the name (read: trusted company) as well, but its still a lot cheaper than DMS, Alpina, ACS, etc. This is my upper limit though and still open minded to other suggestions.

I may be wrong but I think you are looking at the wrong spec sheet from Wetterauer. It clearly states it is for a 530D whereas you have a pre LCI 525D.Isnt that the 2.5l diesel engine with about 163 hp rather than 218hp which is for the 530D ?

I have an LCI 525D which has 194hp standard.I am looking at a remap which will increase power to 230hp and torque to 480nm but will also increase economy.

Excellent piece of negotiating Pete. I tried the same with Mrs MacSid but her attorney's logic kicked in and asked "if this were really that good and with no side effects, why don't BMW sell the car mapped that way to start with???"
