NICE!!
In my last E61 I changed also the knob, but I had to remove the interior plastic bracket and then I glued the Knob with double sided tape on top of the existing knob.
looks great and it's very easy.
If anyone has interest in this knob, I want to sell it..
PM me for any interest.

I had the iPod interface in my 2008 LCI 525d and it worked perfectly with my Nano, which I also bought new at that time. Not sure if that would be the same Ipod interface and Nano you are referring to.

I had the original ipod interface installed on my 07/2008 e60 and it works great both for my 60gb ipod click from 2004 as well as the younger kids nano's (2 different generations of nano's).
btw, like most other people on this thread, love the hartge's and the 128's while find the acs ok. think you should also be careful about overdoing the carbon look so good idea that you've subsequently experimented with the idrive knob; apart from that the exterior is stunning. Have you considered quad exhaust? also agree with earlier comment that it would look even more stylish with the smaller license plate also up front and I disagree with comments that you should remove the roof rail, the car looks better with than without - with all this in mind, I also think you should hold it there and not go any further; have to strike the right balance so it doesn't cross the thin line and become vulgar.

I saw this one last week irl at a Belgium meet on the ACS's and I must say it looks increddible. I'm also a fan of style 128's but the ACS's look really awesome on it.
