Max amps for engine bay terminals?
I was given a Noco Genius 15 amp battery charger/maintainer and I'm curious, is 15 amps too much to push through the battery terminals in the engine bay?
I have been using their 7.2 amp version for years with no problem but I'm worried about increasing beyond that without more information.
Thank you!

I just looked up that charger. The output wires are so small, there should be no problem.
Wire gauge determines how much current it can carry. Those wires are way smaller than the car battery wires.

Thank you, donpb. That hadn't occurred to me but makes perfect sense. Definitely smaller than the car's connection.
pavjayt - it doesn't take very long at all with the 7.2A version. Not driving much these days, I generally only use it to top off the battery as the sits for a few weeks at a time.

Your alternator is likely rated to 180 amps. It charges your battery using the same wire running from the engine compartment to the battery in the rear. You're good.

When I’m programming the car I have a power supply on the engine bay terminals that will sometimes push 60 amps through, and this is constant for extended periods. I have to make sure I get the clamps on good as the negative one can get a bit warm at the tip. Have zero hesitations pushing lots of current through those terminals, they are the approved places for jump starting.
