hm.... so far seems that it might be a good idea to get it extended...
I fully agree with you. Some common repairs are ridiculous expensive because simple part replacement requires also complete software update.

Bought the car in late June '07. Steering sensor "drive slowly" code on i-drive, but nothing to repair at about 6 months. Battery replacement at about 8-10 months.

I have owned three E60's.
The first one was in for a factory problem (seat heating) and had the door gaskets changed twice.
It (a 'early '04) was finally exchanged by the importer (BMW Nordic)
to a brand new one (late '04) but was registered in June '05, without charge.
The early E60 had a safety problem that I could not live with.
The second one was 2 times in for a AC problem (regulator), once after the warranty.
The second time was free only after a big fight!
My current one has only been in for a squeezing Sport steering wheel.
But it will go in a second time (at the first service) for a light crackling noice from the
tiny decor panel left on the steering wheel.

My Ride: 2004 E61 530D SE Auto, Silver Grey, Media pack, Visibilty pack, Panaoramic roof, Active Steering, Black leather, Memory seats, folding mirrors, extended lighting etc etc
![Default](https://5series.net/forums/images/icons/icon1.gif)
We have had our 2004 530D since june last year, so far it has had the following:
Starter motor
Panoramic Roof
Both folding mirror motors
Altenator
Glow Plug
Glow plug control unit
Remote locking control unit
Cup holder
Numerous Reprograms
Going in tommorow for
main thermostat
Instrument binacle
oil leak
I cant remember how many visits, but it is a lot as not all problems fixed 1st time
Think I have a lemon!, it only has 50k on
Without a warranty I would have spent a hell of a lot of money, even mirror motors were about ?300 each!
Anybody on here ran a 3 series touring? If so what did you think?
We are thinking of changing to a 2006 onwards 330/335d - any known issues as the E61 seems to have loads of common faults when you start searching and ours seems to have had every single one and then some

So is the question...."How many times have I used the official BMW Warranty" this week??
Each car is different, and every time you start your car and drive away, THOUSANDS of parts must work together, what are the odds they will ALWAYS do so???
Now think about your co-workers, (also parts in a machine of sorts) how many times do they fail??
Nuff said!

My dear Lemon Car has been in 7 times, which makes it a little more fault prone than the Alfa 156 I had for three lovely years btw 1998-2001. New high score, in other words. ![Help](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/help.gif)
Ohh, I miss my E46 330i Touring 2003. Perfect car for 2 years and 91000 kms. Why did I sell that car?!?![Doh](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/doh.gif)
