E61 Touring Discussion The touring is also known as the wagon version of the 5 series.

Have you checked out the specs of the new 3 series GT?

Default Have you checked out the specs of the new 3 series GT?

Just read about it... 8 inches longer than the 3 series Touring. Wow. I thought they'd be pretty close to each other? Aren't they both based on the same platform?

It's 190 inches long. That's almost the same as our 5 wagons! The new 3 Touring will be 182 inches long.

Is anyone considering the 3 GT as a replacement for their 5 wagon? We've got a dog, and I think the sloping roofline at the back is too low to have a dog in the back...

The GT series simply doesn't do it for me. The 3 Series GT does look better than the 5, which I think is the ugliest modern day BMW (and to believe we lost out on the F11 in North America because BMW Marketing geniuses believed the dreadful 5 Series GT would meet NA needs).

If I change it will be for the F31 which is hitting our showrooms in April (already have a call into my preferred BMW salesman).

The following link gives a good comparison between the F31 and 3 Series GT. (I apologize for the competing web link)

But I think going from our E61 to F31 will be too big a drop in rear trunk space, no? Especially if one has a dog? A 70 pound German Shepherd that is...

That's a great comparo link, thx.

I did look at the E91 prior to the E61 and it was way too small for a family of 4 with 2 young children. Now that my children no longer need strollers and other stuff, I think the F31 will suit our needs very well. It is smaller than the E61 but it is also much more modern and consumes less. The styling of the F30 has grown on me and the F31 looks even better. The only downside, I don't think we will have the manual gearbox offered in Canada.

But if you could have the 40mpg diesel, that would be nice right?

There are rumours N.A. will be getting the F31 diesel in 2014, it would be nice if they offer it with a 6-speed. I may just wait until then.

Getting back to the comparison of numbers, so if the 3 series GT's length is just a couple of inches shy of the 5 series, what are they going for? It's a lower end 5 series (size wise) then?
