I am hoping someone can help!...

I recently installed an amp in my 2004 E61 (it has the standard stereo). The sound is now greatly improved, but unfortunately so is the volume of the PDC and warning gong, waking my kids and most of the the neighbours when i park...

I have done a fair bit of googling and evidently some cars can adjust through the idrive and some not. Also suggestion that a dealer will/may do it...but may not...

Does anyone knw what wires are the input to the head unit and perhaps I can fit a basic volume control or on/off switch to mute the sound? Or a sensible low cost alternative (if it exists)

I am thinking about installing a switch in the amp remote lead controlable from the driverseat so at least i can isolate it when parking, but would ideally like to keep sound, just reduce it to below 1000db!

Thanks

Forgive me if this sounds daft, but have you tried adjusting the volume via the steering wheel or normal volume controls when the PDC is active? For exapmle if you need to adust the volume on the sat nav it only adjusts when the system is producing sound / giving directions etc. I haven't tried this but may be worth exploring.

If you have the CCC then you cannot adjust this yourself. There is a setting in the CCC to change this but you will need to have the car coded for this. The CIC has a setting for this.

i need to point out an obvious error here, the pdc does not blast out 1000db, it does in fact only emit 140db. The 1000db is the sound level of the amber "risk of skidding" warning.

NavarroOne... You actually measured it to 140 db...

http://www.howstuffworks.com/question124.htm

Please note that "...any exposure to 140-dB sound causes immediate damage (and causes actual pain)"

Thesis: Maybe that the secret bmw tactics - to damage ears hence lowering our hearing which will make us less likely to hear all the little annoining clicks, rattles, clocks etc.
