Interesting results.

I have been thinking about changing my pre-LCI 535d Touring for something more economical given the constant rise in UK diesel prices. I had pencilled a 123d as something that could deliver the economy without losing too much performance. However in the 1 Series forums, owners seem to struggle to make it into the 40's when the combined figure is 54 for a manual. Now my 535d with 57k on the clock returns 32-34 regardless what I do with it - very close to the official figure. Is Efficient Dynamics really delivering any real world gains? I would love to hear from an LCI 535d owner.
I have an LCI 535d, it's an E60 but should be similar to an E61. I've only done 2 fillups so far, the first got me 38.9mpg based on 460 miles and the second got me 37.49mpg based on 450 miles. This is brim to brim rather than the OBC, wasn't pushing it too much on the first tank as still running it in, pushed a bit harder on the second tank but was expecting it to be a lot worse so I'm pretty happy.

Our new 525i direct inj petrol does about 38mpg (UK) on long slow motorway-biased trips but about 32mpg on mixed commute. Not sure what it would be in the previous generation 525/523. So it may be very efficient when diven "carefully" (in fact I had 40mpg on a minor-road trip) but normal use (or fast across Europe) its not that great on fuel (but is great on smooth/torque!).

Cheers
Kirk
(still not amused someone scraped bumper in parking today and didn't leave any note!)

Had my first 50mpg journey at the weekend. I did a 60 mile trip mostly on single carriageway roads where overtaking was difficult, so the speed was between 50 and 60 mph (80 to 100 kph), although it also included a small amount of motorway and town driving. At the end of the trip the OBC was reading 50.4 mpg (5.6l/100km or 42 US MPG). I've still only done 1500 miles in my car, but I'm beginning to be impressed with the economy.

My wife was in the car and she has a Golf GTD and she has never got better than 50 mpg.

Did you check the OBC reading as my 520d, same colour and age as yours but a manual showed 44mpg on the OBC but checking between tanks was an actual 41mpg. I find on short stop start journeys accross town I get a true 40mpg and on a lomg motorway run with mixed town driving I am getting about 48mpg so your car is doing really well. Mine has just turned 11000 miles.
