I would like to know more about how you LCI-guys are experience the fuel consumption on your direct injection engines... and that goes for the diesel cars too (even if we could have split petrol an diesel in two categories).

After 7500 kms (4500 miles) I average around 8.8 - 9.3 l/100kms (26.7 - 25.3 US mpg, 32.1 - 30.3 UK mpg) which I am quite happy with baring in mind that I either am on the motorway/highway or standing in a queue...

The offical figures are 7.9 l/100 kms, but that's with a "naked" car in a laboratory environment. Mine is probably >50 kgs heavier with comfort seats, sport bumpers, audio system and the really heavy panoramic roof. Not to mention the wind, ever present in southern Scandinavia...

What's your experience?

'08 535i in Georgia (US) I get 23 mpg in mixed (bach and forth to work) city/highway driving and 29 all highway according to the car's computer. The car has 5,000 miles on it. My highway driving is 75 to 80 mph on cruise control, but the computer shows an average of 67 mph - that takes into account the non-interstate part of the trip. The mixed driving shows an average mph on 30 on the car's computer.

I recently took delivery of a new 2008 model 520d and am getting around 40mpg UK average. I was a bit disappointed with this bearing in mind the published figures. Certainly my previous Audi 2.0TDI was better (around 45 mpg).
Very interested to know what others achieve.

My month old 525d SE Auto (1600 miles on it now) has averaged 39 mph so far. It is gently getting better, I hope to break the 40 barrier soon. This is based on what has gone in the tank, the OBC is recording 42.

This is despite getting a bit heavier with the right foot since the end of the run in period.

Well, now after 23000km its about 12.6 - 12.8 km/ltr = about 7.8 l/100km with my 525d lci e61.

BTW, changed wednesday the rear tyres for a set of Goodyear Eagle F1, the off coming Pirelli P7 were slicks.

Now the car drives how it should be, way better.

Hmm... Interesting one, this. My 2008 LCI 530d now has 2500 miles on the clock and is averaging 27 uk mpg according to the OBC. This is very poor in my opinion - my E39 was getting 30.1 in similar conditions!

I think that the poor fuel consumption is due to the fact that our car does a high number of short journeys into town with a few longer trips per week... Can others comment on short journeys and their impact on fuel consumption?

Diesel:
7.5l/100km, very mixed conditions. Cruising at constant 100km/h is most economical, then it can go as low as 5.5-6.0l/100km. The numbers are from the boardcomputer.

My Diesel consumptions is very high, around 9,3l/100km mixed city/highway
I think my Nokian WR winter tire affects this, before I change from summar tire I had less consumptions 7,4l/100km
The car will be checked up next week, and we will see if there is some other problems.

With my old engine 530da 08/03 E60 mixed is 7,4l/100km, highway+city. Cruising on highway at 120kmh speed consumption is around 6,2-6,4. I drive around 4000km/month and these figures have been quite same all year, maybe a bit less with summer tires. This is not LCI, but I hope it gives you something to compare.
