I just did a highway trip with my new 535XI T the computer says that I am averaging 25 MPG. Not bad since I was running between 70 & 80 and in some traffic.

I've said it before about mine (530D Auto) that I think the figures are a little poor. But then I do accept that it's a powerful car and I do like to put my foor down.

Indicated around town is 22mpg (ish) and the overall is hanging around 28mpg.

I did do a 300 mile motorway round trip a little while ago where I used cruise and stuck to the speed limit and got 39.4mpg. But there was no traffic and I could stay at 70 mph pretty much all the journey.

I think you are talking about 28 MPG on imperial gallons, which are bigger?

No, the dealer or BMW service should have connected it to a Computer. and have read and erased all error codes...

Get them to read the error codes... should not be too much of trouble for them... i usually get it for free at my dealership...
I had the error codes read and I was told that there were errors related to the electronic throttle (not exactly sure what was the name of the component). Mechanics are not sure if this is the case though, because there are no signs of that (problems on cold start etc.), and also they are not convinced that this would lead to higher fuel consumption. It certainly didn't feel there was anything wrong with the throttle. Further investigation is on.

I have a 2005 525d E61 M-Sport.

Town - 26mpg
Combined - 34mpg
Steady 70mph mixed flat and slight hills - 44mpg
Steady 65mph on level road ? 63mpg

The car was remapped by Angel Tuning in Glasgow and improved figures approx 5%.

Getting rid of the runflats improved figures another 5%.

I'd love to get rid of the EGR... You might see a 15-25% increase but I suspect the emissions systems would have a flaky!

I tend to accelerate briskly to get to speed and then cruise. Diesels need the turbo spun up and heaps of air... don?t be too light footed with a Turbo Diesel, try getting to your chosen speed quickly then back off. If you don?t get the revs up then engine will be flooded with fuel to lift the compression up. Get the air in!

I?m a fat bastardo so you thin guys should get one or two MPG more!

My 530d is getting around 3,9-4,2 l/100km on the run...
and around the eights in town.... that is 7,8-8,4 l/100km in town..
I do doubt that, my car needs 6,6 l/100 km in average, but then it has only 6,200 km's on it.

Very similar to mine in fact......

Mine is a salloon tho.

I seem to get around

23mpg around town
26mpg average
39-42mpg on a run averaging 70 - 80 mph

I always use cruise control where possible.

Getting a remap soon, so will see how that changes

If you are driving in London traffic, the figures do not surprise me, take no notice of the quoted urban figures, you cannot compare the real world figures with them.

Hiya.I`ve had similar mpg problems on my 04 530d E61 tourer;23mpg around town-38 motorway. In fact as i type this the car has been Been diagnosed with an injector pump problem(excessive oil showing on dipstick for the past 2 services.as much as 3pints)have been extra careful in filling & using correct oil. Also slight smell in cabin has been noticed.Has anybody come across this problem before and could they advise where best to buy a diesel injector pump.I live in Liverpool and someone has just recommended a Mick Ogden in Chorley Lancashire.I would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks
