Spent a lot of money at BMW main dealer fixing problems on my 2004 525i SE Touring (airbag, passenger seat sensor, passenger belt tensioner etc (all the usual faults). Not cheap and a fault re-appeared.

I decided to go to an independent auto-electrician - I was recommended Gordon Fairlie at GFM Diagnostic Services in Blackhall, Edinburgh, UK. www.gfmdiagnostics.co.uk tel 0131 343 1011. He can conduct a wider range of tests than the main dealer as he has more specialised diagnostic equipment, is more used to troubleshooting because of the nature of his job and costs 60/hour - a lot less than main dealer. And he's a very nice chap also!

He fixed everything for me (drivers side belt tensioner, passenger side door lock replacement, wiring loom repair, diagnostic run etc) and the total bill came to 350. I reckon it would have been nearly double that at the main dealer.

I wish I'd found him earlier - so I though I'd share his details with you. He does all the German marques (+ VAG group - Seat, Skoda too). I'd thoroughly recommend him.

Now that my car's out of warranty, I can't see myself ever going back to the dealer. My biggest problem with them is their reluctance to actually fix anything rather than simply repair it.

Case in point. My rear suspension failure - BMW estimate = £3,500. Independent final bill = £379. That was because although BMW identified the problem as a faulty connector, they wouldn't solder a new one in, they wanted to replace the whole wiring loom - and that was £1,300 on its own.

PS. I hope you are not the autoelectrician in question and are merely posting a fake review to drum up business.

Does smell a bit of a "shill"...

Only has 2 posts, which are identical - one here, and the other in the E60 forum...
