Downloaded the lite version to test. I already have an ELM327 OBD Bluetooth unit. It seems to connect but suggests the approved iCarly unit. Then directs to a place in Europe to buy it. Is my ELM327 good enough? If not, where can I buy the approved one from that would ship from the USA?
My work phone is an iPhone 6, and my personal phone is a Droid. The app seems to be about $15 cheaper on the iPhone, but the iPhone wouldn't connect to my existing OBD Bluetooth unit. Is the app any better for one platform or the other?

Droid version is more up to date, generally. If your Elm connects ok, use it, but the iCarly units seem to be more robust. As I said previously, Amazon sells the iCarly units. You can get and clear trouble codes with the Elm and iCarly Bluetooth units, but if you ever want to recode options, you will need the wired unit. Cheap enough to get both.

Downloaded the Droid version. Seems like a good program. While it works somewhat with my ELM327, it doesn't seem to do all the things it needs. I ordered the white BMWhat one from Amazon, should arrive tomorrow. It did tell me there is a LOT of codes
Also spoke too soon on the drains. When I tested with a little water, it seemed ok. But to be sure, I put a few sheets of paper towel in the hatch, knowing we were due for some heavy rain last night. Checked this morning, and the drivers side was 100% dry. But the battery side was wet. I had cut the end/tip off the drivers drain, but not the pass side. I will do that and see what happens. Hopefully that does it.
Is there even more modules under the battery? That is the only corner that seems to have water intrusion.
Looking forward to getting the BMWhat OBD Bluetooth thing. All-in for under $100 for a portable diagnostics is not bad at all. A friend of mine also has the Bav Tech cable & software. Would that do anything more that may help?
Thanks again all.

regarding your liftgate check out this thread.

I just completed this on my 08 535xiT and it was money. 60cc's of hydraulic fluid and my failing liftgate is as good as new.

The Carly OBD Bluetooth unit came, I was able to read the codes. It doesn't really tell me what to do from here, so I hope this sheds more light to anyone who knows the modules and MOST system better than I do-
Cluster faults- RDC failure 00A3C3, Phone Failure 00A554,
Systems faults- LIN Communication Failure 0093CC, Car Communication Computer CCC 00E18F,as well as 00E18D
Body faults- Tailgate 00A2B2
Searching online for those codes did not return anything..

Also, as I mentioned, none of the modules *appear* water damaged, except slight corrosion on two of the relays. Could those be connected and not powering something? If so, is there other relays in the car I can safely interchange with them for troubleshooting purposes?
And, when I go into "Coding" it says connection unstable under most of the categories.

Autozone apparently carries the relays. Might try there. Take yours in and match them.
You can't change coding on an E61 with the Bluetooth adapter. You need the wired one to code. But the Bluetooth will pull trouble codes. You will need to match your trouble codes up with the modules you have.
It doesn't take much moisture to ruin some of the modules. If you see moisture indications on the relays, start there.
There are a bunch of posts on E60 and 61 water intrusion. Google will show a lot of them.

I was able to do some coding, for the seat belt chime. Didn't really mess with it further once it said unstable connection. Bigger priority is getting the other items working. That's sweet about Autozone. I'll check there. Thanks.

Autozone does carry them on their website, but no local ones within 50 miles had them. So I just ordered them from ECS. They were cheaper anyway, even with shipping. And OEM.
The only part of the hatch that shows signs of water is the battery corner. I checked every fuse, all were fine. The only thing I haven't checked there is the few relays. Might just replace them too for the hell of it, now that I know the water issues are resolved.
