check out the link to the 172 wheels in lissy's webshop. there he explicitly says: additional 80 EUR for spacers required for the e61:

Lissy Link to E61
Just checked the add, I can see the reference to spacers but my German is about as bad as my french..what size does it state or does it not say? Im going to follow your lead on this one and order tomorrow.
Thanks RTM

Hi,
i had M172 wheels in my E61 allround 8,5" and those "front" wheels have ET18. I tried 20mm spacers for fun which makes ET -2 !!! and i only had minimal rubbing sometimes, so minimal that i couldn?t find any signs and i had those spacers two or three weeks. So if you want some very aggressive outlook put 20mm spacers but i would imagine spacers 10-15mm is okay for no rubbing and looks.

To ET discussion; when wheel?s width is increasing 0,5" with same ET (for example ET20), wheel is coming outside 0,64cm for every 0,5" step. When wanting to keep wheel steady comparing to wheel arch and increase wheel width 0,5", you need to increase 6 points (e.g. ET20->ET26).

My 172 "front" wheel 8,5" with ET18 comes out from the mounting point 9cm and rear wheel 9,5" with ET32 comes out 8,87cm so the "outside look" is the same. And from mounting point goes 8,5" to inside 12,6cm and 9,5" 15,27cm. So based on this i can?t say for sure if 9,5" rear wheel?s inner side is rubbing or not, but someone already said that there?s no rubbing.

And I believe that because if Breyton makes wheels like Spirit 20"; rear 10,5" with ET26 which comes out from mounting point 10,74cm and goes inside 15,94cm. My ET -2 came out 11cm with that minimal rubbing (of course it was 19" wheel), so there is actually no room for spacer with breyton spirit to move wheel outside to avoid inside rubbing. So i think Breyton uses no spacer with this wheel. I think Breyton is good benchmark for finding "ET limits".

Of course everything is depending on your possible car drop, especially when lowering more that factory sport chassis 15mm.

I hope this helps someone.

...well, from a legal point of view here in austria, one is not allowed to have wheels stick out more than the fender. so when they inspect your car, they take a log of wood and put it across the fender and see whether the log touches the wheels. In my case (check out my links below), for a 9,5" wheel a total of et 14 was just a few mm too much - the wheel touched the log. Et 17 worked good - no touching. In your case with 172 wheels, this translates to a max 15mm spacers. From what i hear from my friend, the 13 mm was just good enough not to touch. I also believe thorston lissy (owner of that shop) actually offers the 13mm with the 172 wheels (btw. he put no sizes of the spacers on his webshop - he just said, you need to pay an extra 80 eur for the spacers)....

a nice page to see the "right" ET. What do you think?

When I fit the 13mm spacers will the rear wheels stick out and look odd or is hardly noticable??
