I'm installing towbar and wiring to my e61. Now I'm jammed with the wiring! Does anybody know where the attached picture refers to and where the CAN-bus connection should be done? I can not find any place looking like that.

Hi Pero

What type of wiring kit do you have? Is it OEM or aftermarket? The picture you indicate is of a 3 series saloon rather than the E61.

I installed a Westfalia towbar and electrics to my E61 which are the makers of the OEM equipment. If I remember correctly the CAN-bus connection was behind the O/S cushion of the rear seat.

You will need to check your is the same model year etc, but I hope this helps.

I have a Westfalia mechanics also, but the wiring kit is something else, there is "ECS electronics B.V." in the instructions. The same part of instruction is for many BMW models, including 1,3, 5, 7, x1, x5, x6 series, which makes it not so clear.

That picture doesn't look right for an E61. I have some instructions for towbar wiring from a couple of manufacturers that I can email you.

Does your email address start with "alff..." if so I've emailed you before and have your email address.

As for connection to the CAN bus. You can make the connection anywhere you find the yellow wire and black wire twisted together.

Thank's for your support, I managed to do the job. It's not an OEM wiring, but works fine. Deactivates rear fog light of the car and the rear park assist also when trailer connected. I just wonder how warm the electrical boxes run in the spare wheel compartment, between two isolating parts.

Someones tell they made the job in 2 hours, it took three afternoons from me... I made some unti-rust work, changed some screws to stainless etc., but the wiring took the most of the time
