The tailgate window on my '05 E61 535d doesn't seem to release when it should.

If you want to open it the catch doesn't work, but sometimes it decides to open itself when I'm driving along.

Any suggestions as to what I could do to investigate and/or fix this?

thanks.....jim

Assumings its adjusted corectly, its probably the microswitch. Ive just replaced mine and it is a common problem.

I had a similar problem on my E61 although i had a battery discharge message as well. The tailgate window would pop open of its own accord and end the parcel shelf flying up at the same time. Turned out my problem was with whatever module controls the rear tailgate electrics not functioning correctly. It was replaced under warranty though.

I agree, some adjustments are required in the mechanism. The stealership did that on mine, and now works fine!

Thanks.....any info on where the microswitch is located and how easy it is to replace much appreciated.

If I had to choose between taking it to a dealer to look at and having it permanently closed I'd go for the latter.

I had a problem with a key last month......basically stopped working. I asked how much a new key was and they told me ?100 which seemed about right for BMW. Then they suggested I pay them ?200 just to investigate the problem in case it was the car.

Needless to say I just bought a new key and all was fine. I think the trouble with BMW dealers is they deal with too many people who aren't paying the bill themselves!!!!
