E61 Remote Key Fob Again!!
Hi Folks
Last night i have rewired the loom that passes through from the rear of the car roof lining to the tailgate, powering all of the lighting on the tailgate 2009 E61. There were several completely severed wires and a few others broken through the insulation.
I was able to lock the car normally with the remote key fob and opened it again this morning in the normal manner. I made the same job with the other wiring loom that runs parallel on the right side of the car and up to the underside of the spoiler. Everything there is working ok, except the remote key fob is no longer working. I have checked that there are no short circuits in my wiring and that the White with Blue tracer wire has continuity up to it's plug. The brown earth wires are also good. My glass lid now opens perfectly, the radio works and stores stations, but the remote key fob is still inactive. When I unlock with the key in the lock, then open the door the alarm goes off until I put the key into the ignition.
I have opened up the Diversity Antenna Module and it looks to be good with no sign of damp or corrosion.
Other than replace the Diversity Antenna Module, any ideas?
Is it possible that during my cutting of the wires and replacing I have inadvertently damaged the module? Is there a particular fuse that I need to check?
Thanks in advance
Gavin

No remote after repair wiring
Gavin
I had the exact same problem as you, I fixed the wiring on the right side after a MOT failure due to the high brake light not working. After fixing all the wires the only thing not working is the remote key. I've checked all connections and it all looks fine.
I'm now planning to take the car to an independent BMW specialist, he thinks there's something wrong with the diversity module (white box in the spoiler).
I'll let you know when I eventually get it fixed.
Have you had any luck getting yours working?

HI,
I traced my fault to a blown fuse in the boot of the car.
I had not disconnected the battery before doing the repairs, stupid of me, so must have caused a short.
Once I replaced the fuse everything worked perfectly. I could only find the blown fuse by checking every one, as the guide isn't very specific about which fuse has which function. Be careful as there are lots of empty fuse holders and it is too easy to replace a fuse in an empty slot!
Good luck
Gavin
Please let me know if this works

Key fob function blocked by film?
I am also having issues with the remote key fob, and have been told the metallic window film on the rear three windows of the Touring is blocking the signal. It has also been suggested that the sensor is located in one of the rear side windows, and may only need the film removed from that panel. Does anyone know if this is accurate, and if so, which rear window it is located in?

I've had my faulty remote locking fixed, I had another broken wire, the blue and white wire to the diversity module (a white box) in the spoiler. I'd fixed all the wires in the hinge and didn't expect to have two breaks. All working now.
If you've an estate the diversity module is in the spoiler. I've seen pictures online of it being in one of the rear pillars on a salon but you can check easily by searching on google.
I'd take your car to an independent BMW specialist, someone who's familiar with 5 series and their problems. The guy I used (JBSAS in Stafford) knew what the problem was straight away.

Wires fixed
I ended up taking it to a local independent shop and it was in fact 8 wires that were compromised, that controlled the radio tuner, rear glass heater, rear glass latch, and remote entry. They access the module by taking the headliner down in the luggage area and making the necessary splices/repairs. All better now, though need to pop back in as I think there is a wire crossed...when I turn on the rear defroster and the rear wiper, it triggers the window latch to open!

Gavin,
Do you remember what was the value of the replaced fuse or the number on the fuse board? I fixed multiple wires damage but key fob is still dead. Visual inspection of antenna amplifier didn’t reveal any water/corrosion damage.

Hi - first time posting here. I'm having same key issue. Neither remote buttons or comfort access are working on e61 - '07 530xi touring. Took apart the diversity amplifier antenna today in rear spoiler and the circuit board has corrosion. I'll be getting a new one and expecting that to fix my problem. I'm having no radio issues.
Found this fuse diagram with words - yeah!!!

Post#4 has a link. CalBMW - Could be fuses 77 or 79 for you, I'm thinking. Mine checked out fine.

Hi Diane, hope it's that and not any broken wires. When the wires start to go, the first fault I had was the switch for the rear glass going dodgy, the glass lid would spuriously open. This was followed by fog and reversing lamp errors
Good luck!
Good luck!

I just bought this thing and ...
1) two key fobs, both do not work remotely. Key has to be inserted into the door to unlock and lock.
2) rear defogger does not work
3) rear glass can only be open by pressing the button with the engine running.
I opened up the rear spoiler and found:
1. Antenna amp board has water corrosion
2. No ground at the defogger wirings (there is +12V)
3. No broken wires on the right side wiring loom going to the spoiler.
4. One 5AMP fuse busted at the right side of the cargo area.
Fashioned a new ground wire for the defogger and that fixed BOTH the defogger and the rear glass button. The glass button now can be opened without the engine running.
Cleaned the corrosion on the board and replaced the 5 amp fuse but the fobs still do not lock and unlock remotely. There is nothing wrong with the fob battery. I looked inside and checked its voltage.
So, what is next? replacing the antenna amp module at $300?
