I have a problem where my BMW E61 Keyfob which will only open and close the car when standing at the rear of the car. I replaced the re-chargeable battery after reading that they can fail over time. No noticeable improvement unfortunately. Reading a little more I discovered that the diversity aerial is also a problem on this particular model.
I think I may have a problem with the rear window washer which fits in with others experiences.I just didn't realise there was a connection. The question I'm asking is if the unit has failed then why would the doors still open/close? I would have thought it would not work at all.
Has anyone any ideas

Regards,
Barry

Its a tough question to answer - it may have failed only partially, and it might also be the cables and not the diversity module - the wiper problem points in the cable harness direction..

I would suggest as a first step open up the Diversity Module and see if its damagd or not - its really a 15 min job and it will bring you ahead in the search for the culprit

When my diversity antenna failed it didnt just stop working. The distance the keyfob would work at started reducing until it just no longer worked at all.

There's an old trick of holding the keyfob under your chin and pushing the button, it amplifies the signal somehow...it may help anyway.

I would like to add that though the antenna seemes dry , no corrosion and otherwise, mine was broken.
At a glance it looked in best condition.
