Default E61 Power Tailgate Normal Operation

Hello all,

We just recently bought a 2010 535i Wagon. Love the car but need to sort out the power tailgate.
Can anyone confirm normal operation with the remote? The 2 buttons in the interior work properly to unlatch the entire tailgate but the remote fob will not. Using the remote if I press the lower hatch button it will unlatch the tailgate glass. However if I hold down on the hatch button on the remote it will activate the alarm. I will note releasing the hatch glass seems to be a little longer hold on the remote button then a standard click on the button.
So when working normal should we just click the hatch button on remote to lift the tailgate? The car did not come with a manual so no luck there. Thank you

Interesting, yours sounds different than mine. If I hold the hatch button on the remote it will open the entire rear liftgate, not the glass. You mention two interior buttons, I only have one (by the foot pedals) that opens the rear hatch.

Mine wouldn't close the rear liftgate via the button by the foot pedals or via the remote. I asked this question on another forum a while back and some people in Europe told me theirs would close via the key fob or the button down by the foot pedals. So presumably the lawyers felt this wouldn't be good for north america as someone might close it on a person or something. You can change the behavior through coding and that is what I did. I can now open/close my tailgate via the key fob or the button by the pedals. Only way I know to open the rear glass is the button under the rear wiper. Here are the coding changes I made to allow me to close it via the other buttons.

Here's a link to the 2010 manual.
