E61 535d Antenna Diversity Module Wiring
Hello
I recently had the problem of the glass hatch opening every time I started the car.
I was aware of the common problem of broken wires as the loom enters the tailgate and so I dived in and opened up the right hand wire guide to the glass hatch and pulled the wiring through the speaker aperture into the car.
Nearly all the wires had cracked insulation but non were actually broken.
I cut out the bad bits and soldered in new cable, leaving slightly more length than before, heat shrinked it all and put the car back together/
I fixed the fault later with a new release button. Should have read the forums better as this seems to be the most likely cause with the symptoms I had.
Anyway, I may have fixed one fault but caused another. Now the aerial amplifier doesn't work. Radio reception was very good but now hardly works at all.
The module is completely dry and the remote locking still works.
I really don't see how my soldering could have failed so soon but it's obviously the first place to start looking.
Can anybody tell me what voltages I should be getting at the 8 pin plug on the right hand side of the module. ( have only 3 pins populated in the 8 pin plug )
I read the voltages with a multimeter with the radio on.
Between the car body and:
Pin 1 (red + white) 11.8 volts
Pin 2 (white + blue) 4.7 volts
Pin 3 (white + purple) 0 volts
This would indicate that pin 3 is probably the ground connection but the meter read zero volts between pin 3 and pin1 and also between pin 3 and pin 2.
So, could pin 3 be leading to a broken wire or are these 3 wire part of a bus system and a multimeter isn't going to tell me much?
Thanks in advance
Adrian
