I test drove a 2006 530xi sport wagon today. I thought it was pretty nice but felt a bit soft under heavy cornering. I looked on the bmwusa.com and saw that the sport package option does not include any modifications to spring rates or anti roll bars. Coming from an S2000 and an E46 with the sport package, I found myself wanting slightly more settled ride at the limit.

What are the thoughts of current e61 owners? I understand this is not intended to be a sports car. However, I do wish they offered a sport package that stiffened the suspension a bit.

Hi, I assume you're in the US?
This is unfortunately the only model they import here.
I picked up an ED last month and am currently waiting for redelivery. I really love this car. I ordered the sports pkg but it's mainly cosmetic (sport seats, black shawdowline). You're correct there's no sport suspension, ARS, SMG, etc. for the 530xi. I believe they're not compatible with xDrive (yet?).
You can nevertheless order 18" run-flat performance tires separately on top of the sport package if you'd like though. I didn't because I read they don't behave so well in wet/snowy conditions, but it'd provide for a firmer ride I think.

I have had my 530xiT for over two months and 3,000 miles and really enjoy it. Although it does not handle as well as my E46 M3, I never expected it to. The 530xiT is the perfect combination of handling and utility.
