Hi guys, just bought my first touring 05 msport 525. The airbag light has appeared on the Idrive and dash. I've done loads of searching and it look like a visit to the dealers. Does anyone use a reset tool ? I'd rather buy one and do it myself if this is going to be a regular occurance

Air bag light on could be a number of things but could be the seat occupancy sensor which was the common issue on the E39 also.

I don't think you can get a air bag reset tool for an E60/E61, the fault has to be switched off using a sofware interface tool.

I had an Air bag error on my car last year and turned out to be a faulty +VE battery connection, reading the code it came up as 'SBK fault' Safety Brake Konnector. This is the explosive trip which triggers when you have an accident and disconnects the battery. I had to take it to a dealer as my trusted BMW indy garage could not diagnose and repair it. Really expensive to fix, as the part was £200 alone plus the labour and VAT. Final bill was a tad over £400!

Someone else on the board here had the Air Bag fault and found their +ve terminal connector was loose, tightened it up and fault went away.
