OK, here's a long shot...
Has anyone here found a way to close the powered tailgate from inside the car? It would be nice if I could simply press the tailgate open button to close it as well, but I can see the reasons for BMW not allowing that. So, I thought of possibly finding a way to close the tailgate using the (otherwise unused) SOS button on the head liner. In theory, it should be fairly simple to run a set of wires from the tailgate close button on the tailgate to the SOS switch, but running wires the full length of the inside of the car (not to mention up the tailgate itself!) would be a huge pain. There's got to be another way... anyone have any ideas, or has this been successfully done before?

I want to hear about this one as well. So far I've only managed a close from within, by taking the key out of the ignition slot and pressing the remote... It should be possible to better that!

Really? You can close your tailgate with the remote? I'm pretty sure I can't even do that - the only way for me to close it is with the button on the tailgate itself. I wonder if this is something the guys at the dealership can program in for me. That would be an improvement already!

With ignition off, depressing the remote trunk-open button for a few seconds will do the trick
But an in-car button would be really nice

That's good to know... I tried that last night and there's no way for me to close the tailgate with the remote. I can open it (obviously), and if it's partially open when I press the button again it stops, another press and it continues on its way up. If I press it again when it's open, it does nothing. If I press it for more than a couple of seconds, the panic alarm sounds. I'll ask the dealer the next time the car is in - perhaps this is something that can be programmed.

conversely, I don't have a panic alarm so the remotes are definetely set up differently but since it is doable on my car, it must be doable/programmable on yours. if your dealer wont budge/believe, let me know and I'll make a short video of the operation and upload it to youtube so you have evidence..

There is a button on the drivers side footwell that will open and close it by pressing. Even has a little picture of the tailgate on it. But i can also open it with the remote as well. I have a 530xi here in the US but made in Germany.

I agree it will open, but I can't get it to close. What do you do, hold it for e.g 10 seconds or so?
