Why do YOU think BMW have left them off the UK site - I think it's pretty strange.
because 80-120km/h times only apply to manual cars. Not automatics, look at the bmw.de
site , they have the times listed under 525d, 530d, but not under 525dA , 530dA...

Because the 80-120km/h measure is when you press the pedal to the floor on a manual car..

if you tried doing that in an auto it downshifts (i.e. kickdown)

as for me i usually go out at 4am on sunday morning for some 200km/h + thrills in the center of sofia... no cops, only 2 cameras in the whole city... and me driving

You know what.. your right... I was hoping it was something more sinister

This sort of reflects my feeling at the moment though that the steptronic isn't well set up for the diesels. I find it will drop a couple of cogs if I accelerate hard, when I'd actually have more power in the original gear.....

That's why it seems a shame to me that the 535d is only in a step... hopefully we might see a new one at some point with smg based on the NEW 3.0d engine....

or just a bi-turbo 545d....

a slight hesitation of the gearbox is something normal ... you need to look at the tuners to solve that for you. Its just a design flaw of the auto gearboxes, that they dont use the available torque in gear... Tuners can certainly make the car far less willing to swap cogs...

Lower gears will provide more power than higher gears, thats a fact. Try putting in in M6 at 50mph and accelerating hard (not with kickdown), then try it with M2....

Anyways smg and diesel... i dont think it will ever happen.

4.5 bi-turbo and e60... never. But there will be a 540d of course if mercedes' e420cdi sells well

its all about marketing

Is that still the case for diesels, I'm not sure that with the 6 speed box in the 530d the best shiftpoint is at the redline as you would normally expect.

It REALLY pulls at around 2000rpm and doesn't feel significantly faster higher in the rev range, especially at the limit where it just makes lot's of 'noise', but produces not much more go.....

That's why you should have got the 535d. All the rev band in available now. The setptronic never went wrong in my car, never. This engine stole my heart you know? Before i ordered it i said to myself enough with the diesels, i want a serious petrol engine. The only option at that time was the 545i but even if it was available the 550i i still would have gone with the diesel. The only thing that would have changed my mind = the m5 with it's engine but that's another story, way too different and more expensive. Otherwise i would have gone to the 530i with the new block.
I dunno it was a post somewhere on the kickdown d-bate on those times and runs. A member said that the runs are made using kickdown (full throttle).

Surely that's covered by the 535d? Unless they want to tag the 'new' 535d as 540d to distinguish it?

Sadly - you could be right

I'm thinking of a DMS job though... they reckon it's go to 260hp (from 218) and up to approx 570nm.

I plugged this into this calculator:

http://www.letstorquebhp.com/calculator.asp

530d + DMS

Power at Flywheel (BHP) : 260
Weight without Driver (KG) : 1685
Power to Weight Ratio (BHP Per Ton) : 156.78
0 - 60 (Secs) : 6.77
0 - 100 (Secs) : 17.33
60 - 100 (Secs) : 10.56
Quarter Mile (Secs) : 15.11
Terminal Speed (MPH) : 93.36
Drag Strip Quarter Mile (Secs) : 15.01
Drag Strip Terminal Speed (MPH) : 94.41

535d

Power at Flywheel (BHP) : 272
Weight without Driver (KG) : 1735
Power to Weight Ratio (BHP Per Ton) : 159.29
0 - 60 (Secs) : 6.68
0 - 100 (Secs) : 16.87
60 - 100 (Secs) : 10.19
Quarter Mile (Secs) : 15.00
Terminal Speed (MPH) : 94.30
Drag Strip Quarter Mile (Secs) : 14.90
Drag Strip Terminal Speed (MPH) : 95.36

What do you think ?

Hold on a moment, how can a 550i weigh the exact same as a 535D?? if a 535D is 50KG heavier than the 530D then surely that V8 lump must be at least 70kg's heavier than the Straight Six Diesel.
