Exclamation 2010 535I XDrive Touring, 156,xxx Automatic

Hello Everyone,

I just purchased a BMW 2010 535I XDrive, WBAPT7C52AC237768

Automatic

Miles 156,xxx

I have a few questions about this vehicle, Let me first tell you that right away.

I started working on the car.

Replaced

-Oil Filter Housing Gaskets

-Intake Manifold Clean Up

-Cleaned Vanos sensors

-Replaced serpentine belt

About to Replace this week...

-Valve Cover gasket

-Spark plugs

-Oil change

-New coolant

-Complete front suspension (All front control arms)

-Front Shocks

-CV Axle Shaft (Passenger)

I wasn't aware I need to take apart the whole engine to replace two small gaskets and a serpentine belt lol.

Questions

1-Is my car an E60 or E61?

2-I jacked up the car on the driver's side to get under the car and when I was done with it the Rear left side suspension dropped. I haven't started the car yet cause I haven't finished yet.

If I open the key the suspension won't raise and it's giving me codes as well. any tips? is there a reset for this?

3-Rear hatch spindles, I press the open rear hatch button but it only unlocks it, and then I have to open it manually.

I can hear the left spindle working. Could this be the control module?

I greatly appreciate your help & input.

Thank You.

Good for you on doing this work yourself.

1.
E60 = 5 series sedan from 2004-2010
E61 = 5 series touring from 2004-2010, you have an E61.

2. I can’t remember offhand when the suspension runs but I think it may require the engine on, but probably just ignition on should do it. The module that controls it is under the spare tire so check there for water pooling.

3. Are you saying you can hear the hydraulic pump running but it doesn’t open? The pump controls a hydraulic ram on the left side and there is a standard strut on the right. It’s possible that strut on the right needs replacing but most likely your pump is low on fluid. The latter is a very common issue that you’ll find on the forums. Also, check under your spare tire as sunroof drains commonly clog and water pools in there and fries the modules.

edit: are you referring to “hatch” as the rear glass? It doesn’t open on its own, just has some springs in the hinge to assist. Or, are you referring to the entire rear liftgate? I responded above assuming the latter. Lastly, you may be referring to the slide out cargo cover that is supposed to slide up automatically when you open either the rear glass or the liftgate. A video may be helpful.

Hello everyone how do I upload an iPhone video to this thread?
I already finished replacing the valve cover gasket, OIl filter Housing gaskets, Serpentine belt and intake manifold carbon clean up.
After I started the car I noticed a ticking noise coming from the engine.
The vehicle says the engine has an error and it's restricted to run on low power.
I'm trying to upload a video but it won't let me lol so frustrating.
How could I upload the video?
Thank You.

I was able to scan the car and these are the codes I'm getting after I start it.
What do you think this could be?
-3100
-2ABC
-5f12
-9C54
-54C6
-55C3

I Finished replacing the;
-Valve cover gasket
-Oil Filter housing filters
-Serpentine belt
-Cleaned the Vanos sensors
-Cleaned the intake manifold ports from carbon

I dont know if I messed something up in the process.
But I had to jack up the vehicle to get underneath and now its giving me a AWD error message.
Please help lol
Thank You.

When the battery is disconnected the steering angle sensor loses track of where it is so the AWD light will always come on until you turn the steering wheel all the way lock-to-lock.

Those codes you provided sound like they come from a generic OBD reader and not a BMW-specific tool like INPA, ISTA, Carly, etc. If you get a BMW specific reader it will read codes on all modules, not just engine related ones.

Yes, I was able to get rid of the AWD error code by turning the wheels left to right.
Now as far as the other codes yes I pulled them with a BlueDriver Obd reader.
It looks like I will be needing to buy another OBD reader ASAP.
I'm thinking ISTA?
What do you think?

ISTA+ is free. Just google it, download it and install it. You will need to buy a K+ D can cable. I get mine off of Amazon.

And you'll need to install it on a laptop or tablet. Or you can buy a stand-alone reader, and just plug it into the OBD Port.
