According to BMW Sweden the 172M is not mounted on the car at the production line, so the only alternative for me is to buy them afterwards. That will be a financial shock, so I'll stick with the 135M. :'(

Correct.

If you get a good deal on new wheels as part of the purchase of the car and then sell the original 135 wheels, the amount you spend is no worse than the price of the 172 upgrade on the e60.

What I could do is to sell the tyres and keep the 135M wheels for my winter tyres... Hmm, needs some calculation on that! Well, the battle is not lost yet.

That's the way forward!
Exactly what I did... kept the M135s for winter and bought my self a set of 19" rims for summer. Go on, you know you want to...

The load rating on 19" tyres is not as high as the 18s (varies by tyre make of course). You have to accept a lower maximum load than the theoretical max the e61 could take. Myself, if I needed to carry that weight I would have a van as well

Exclamation

Aha, so it's not a question about the 172M's fitting to the car, it's just a small legal question...

Baring in mind the keeness the Swedish authorities enforces the law, this will be a nice buy...

Cool

Thanks to excellent coaching from blingo and eager support from both andy545 and xBMWx I ordered yesterday my 172M:s at Sales After.de.

It'll be the same wheel dimension on all four, 8,5x19 with 245/35x19 Continental SportContact2. That way I won't need spacers or care about different load rating. And I'll later sell four brand new 18" tyres so that I can use the 135M with winter tyres.

Now I only need the car...
