Jeezus Swahili I couldn't of even thought it better let alone said it better myself

+2million kroz

but what about a Porsche for example 911 gt3 or 911tt?

See I don't think a turbo engine loses or gains any stigma when comparing in a co. like Porsche I think people really only groan about turbos when recalling memories of all the crappy 80's GM turbo POS that notoriously sucked.
I gotta ask - exactly what 80's GM cars w/turbo's are you referring to?

Haha well maybe not gm I just remember an old friend of mine had a crap I can't remember a 80 something Plymouth duster or dodge Daytona or something that had 60?k on it and the turbo barely worked and when it did the sh*TTY boost guage would spike to like 35 lbs of boost and the waste gate would make this high pitched farting sound.. It was fvckin hilArious!! Especially when we would try and pick up girls in it... Sh*t I can't remember the exact model and I haven't talked to that dude in years or I'd ask him... Idk my point was way back when they did NOT make turbo cars all that well and that would last to a 100k Im sure there's some SAAB fans that would have a million good things to say and facts but I'm just recalling the bad rap turbo engines got from POS like my buddies

BMW's M division would most likely have not gone with FI if of weren't the strict emission laws. With the demand for higher gas mileage, BMW M had no other choice to go the FI route. FI is an awesome platform and is not far fetched to say a 1000+ hp FI BMW can be built, with the correct block of course. It's just that BMW Ms roots were from NA engines. It's just sad so see them go a different direction. I'm sure BMW m would not have gone fi if they did not see a great potential and future for it. I'm sad but excited at the same time to see what they will have planned for us in the very near future.

Good grief man! - don't ever mention Plymouth here again!!!

I would NEVER own a Plymouth or Chrysler because of their lousy drivetrains and the only Dodge I consider would be a Viper or a Ram 2500 Diesel.

Funny you should mention Saab. I had a 1999 Saab 9-5. The engine, turbo and all, was just fine. The suspension and ride on the other hand, sucked which is why I jettisoned that car mid-lease by getting someone to assume my lease which allowed me to step into my beloved, dearly departed 2003 E39 540i Sport.

As per Wiki
The first production turbocharged automobile engines came from General Motors. The A-body Oldsmobile Cutlass Jetfire and Chevrolet Corvair Monza Spyder were both fitted with turbochargers in 1962. The Oldsmobile is often recognized as the first, since it came out a few months earlier than the Corvair. Its Turbo Jetfire was a 215 in? (3.5 L) V8, while the Corvair engine was either a 145 in? (2.3 L)(1962-63) or a 164 in? (2.7 L) (1964-66) flat-6. Both of these engines were abandoned within a few years, and GM's next turbo engine came more than ten years later.

Offenhauser's turbocharged engines returned to Indianapolis in 1966, with victories coming in 1968. The Offy turbo peaked at over 1,000 hp in 1973, while Porsche dominated the Can-Am series with a 1100 hp 917/30. Turbocharged cars dominated the Le Mans between 1976 and 1994.

BMW led the resurgence of the automobile turbo with the 1973 2002 Turbo, with Porsche following with the 911 Turbo, introduced at the 1974 Paris Motor Show. Buick was the first GM division to bring back the turbo, in the 1978 Buick Regal, followed by the famed Mercedes-Benz 300D and Saab 99 in 1978. The worlds first production turbodiesel automobile was also introduced in 1978 by Peugeot with the launch of the Peugeot 604 turbodiesel.
