I wouldn't mind owning a M5, I would trade my car in a heartbeat! I've always wanted one when I was younger, The sound of the its growl blows my mind. The power is insane, why wouldn't you want a M5? because of fill ups every 2-3 days? Just think of it as your E60 but with munchies.

I would rather have an M5 over any 545/550 any day. No matter how much gas it uses. I was in down town San Diego last weekend and one pulled up next to me and all i could do is try to hold my jaw up. I lowered my window and turned off the radio told the wife to listen, and when it drove off. It was like a musical of 10 cylinders playing the most beautiful sound you can Possibly hear. (it was stock). I love it.

Delivery of an M5 is now scheduled for late June. I can't wait. The expense has already started though; today I got the insurance sorted at (gulp) 1600 quid a year. Now I'm just scared that BMW announce an upgraded engine or tranny between now and the delivery date.
Well if you got your M5 as scheduled, you have nothing to worry about because no changes were made in 2008. However, I did hear through the grapevine that the M5 may get the DCT (dual clutch tranny) for 2009.

And to add my 2 cents to the discussion, if I could afford the US$ 168,900 starting MSRP for admission (minus the registration cost of 10%, insurance, and the fact that gas costs about US$ 7.50/gallon here in Korea), I would have myself the V10 M5 in a millisecond! As for fuel consumption, any car driven with a heavy right foot gets lousy mileage!
