My Ride: 2007 M5 - Interlagos Blue / SMG / Black Perforated Merino / Fully Loaded!!

P400 S5 on local streets, mostly P500 S6 on the highway unless I'm cruising for a while then maybe I'll back down to P400 and put it in D5, it's the only way I can tolerate D mode..

P500 S3 is pretty much my all the time driving. P500s S5 is my m-mode which I rarely use. I never use P400, saving that for when the snow tires are on in the winter I guess.

I drove my M5 in auto mode for about 5 minutes when I first got it and been in manual mode ever since. D mode is too jerky. The car shifts unexpectedly so I hated it.

Anyway, reset your mpg meter. Click the switch till mpg is displayed and hold it down a few seconds and it'll reset. It'll then start to recalculate your mpg. Remember though that it's calculating the ave for the last 30 miles or so (I think). It'll start low but it'll go back up. In mixed city/highway driving, I get about 11.3mpg. The most I've seen is about 16mpg on a 50 mile trek on the freeway.

I usually shift gears around 4500-5000 rpm and downshift around 3000 rpm. I have a bad habit of keeping my rpms high (~4500 range) even on the freeway. I used to never drive in 6th or 7th gears but trying to do that more now. hahaha
I have never driven in auto mode, I only know that it works as I had one of my cuz drive the beast as I sat in the passenger seat to feel what its like. This car is not made for D and its nothing id ever recommend...i hate it even more!

I drive 99.9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% in M-mode, P500S, S5 MDM...the beast needs the added security of MDM, so I dont recommend to anyone to drive the beast in S6 unless under proper conditions.

I shift similarly in the 4.5-6K range, and always down shift above 3K, usually around 4K as the throttleblip is to die for! I dont at all use 6 or 7 even on short highway stints, i'll only use them if im driving more than 20miles on the highway which is rare. otherwise its between 3rd-5th on the highway at speed

This style will get one ~9-11mpg, and my cpu usually reports 10.2 -10.8

Why are some people hating on D? D-5 is awesome when someone is behind you and you know they are gonna try and pass you...it automatically drops you from 7th to 2nd or 3rd gear. It's the best feeling in the world
yes, thats why we hate it....its absolutely NOT the best feeling in the world when you dont do it yourself, the beast is meant for drivers, not pedal mashers

...now when you shift yourself, then its certainly the best, but if you werent in D youd probably be in the proper gear to only need one or two quick downshifts to pass(if any)

wow I don't know how any of you guys can drive in anything under S5. WAY to slow in shifting. Definately not a natural feel either. I'm ALWAYS on P500S S5.
