Ok so anyways, I went for a car clean today, and apparently the idiots forgot to close the doors and it used my battery. My IDrive failed, black screen apeared so I decided to go to bmw dealership and check out the problem. The dealer had to reset my idrive system thats all, but thats not what I am concerned about. He told me, that bringing my car from US to Canada, there is a policy of changing the speedometer and the climate controls to canadian codes. ( My dealer did not do it). Then he said, the clutch and the SMG has to be regulated, means the pressure on the clutch is at minimum, and it delays when it shifts. He said there is no problem but in the future I will have to take it back to the dealership and pressurize my clutch and the shifts.

When they said climate control to Canadian codes do they mean from Fahrenheit to Celsius?
If your car has km/h written on the speedometer it should be fine. It wouldn't have passed the RIV requirements if these modifications are still needed.

It did have to be changed about 2 years ago but I heard that they changed that rule. I paid close to $3600 to get the conversion done and then a week later I found out that it didnt have to be done, supposedly my dealer knew this and didnt inform me. There are indy shops doing the conversion for around $1100 so check them out but I am not sure about TO. Also, My dealer says they will cover everything under warranty but not the clutch, they informed me to go to the states and get it covered, fuked up thing is that some of the US cars clutches are not covered in the US. I will be contacting BMWNA and asking them for the real answers, I suggest you do the same. Keep us updated. Almost feels like the money I saved wasnt worth it, I guess the BMW Canadian dealers are doing a good job.
My car is a previous US vehicle and HAD TO BE CONVERTED BEFORE OWNERSHIP could be tranfered. It is about a $4,000CAN cost to get the Heat module and Cluster changed. I would look into this, as your insurance may be void since you have not done this.

Like I said, this was the issue before but not anymore. You can have a indy shop change the clusters for much cheaper than the stealer. I dont see how insurance would be effected by the clusters being in F or mph. Might want to change insurance companies or dealers if thats your case.
We bought a Subaru Impreza STi from the US back in August of 2008. Obviously the entire car came with the US units on the cluster and heat module. All we had to do to get the OOP (Out of Province ispection) approved was get the DRL's. It's my brothers car so all we did was have Subaru run his night lights (or whatever they're called....you know what I mean
) as his DRLs and that was sufficient enough. We also had the impression that the cluster and heating module had to be changed but it doesn't. He still has the US units on everything.
Side note: On the STi the RPM gauge is where the speedometer is for other cars (so right in the center). Wouldn't it be better if they did the same thing for the M5?
Another side note: My friend is going to let me take his M5 out one day!!!

That's crazy?! Why does it matter if it's km or mph? F or C? I could possibly see the mph thing being a problem for insurance reasons, but what does the temperature matter?
