Why do you want to waste money buying fuel or time stopping at the petrol station, if your dealership sells the 550i, with more and more torque at lows and very similar overall performance ?
Otherwise you could get the new B5S, 530 HP and more torque than your current remapped 535d
(and still a better mileage than the M5, going faster)
Today, at least .
Having an M5 is about so much more than just the torque/engine ... !

But anyway, F10 M5 is probably 4 years off. I could be driving a Lamborghini or flying round in the helicopter by then and not even consider a cheapy M5 Or I could be unemployed, broke, and wishing I could afford a new pair of shoes. So, we'll see !!

HTF316: You car is HOT!!!!
Your mileage though would mean a trip to the Gas Station every 3rd day for me...instead of every 4.5 day. Man these BMW V engines love the gas!!!!!

hopefully by the time the new m5 comes out youll be uber sucessful and wont worry about the cost of gas. on the other hand if you just want to be cheap you could get the (doh i shoulda got the M5!) 550i. personally i always get the best so i dont regret it later and if you get an m5 as annoying as mpg is, youll love the car so much it wont really matter. just my 2 cents

HA! I've seen quite a few people that have also said similar things to aznronin; basically, why worry about gas mileage when you can afford such an expensive car. But it's not really the money. I think most of us are more irritated at how many times we have to pump gas.

I'm mostly stuck in traffic everyday and my OBC says I have an average of 10.5mpg; or about 200 or so miles a tank. But I've also seen it it go as high as 300 miles on my range when I'm on a long freeway trek. I think I'll do a manual calc one of these days to see if the OBC is right.

What would be the average range for an M5, cruising around 75 to 85 mph, be?
I know what BMW publishes approx 183 miles. Is this realistic? I drive from Dallas,Tx
to Ruidoso, New Mexico 5 to 7 times a year, there is a stretch that could go about 135 miles without
a gas stop at certain times of day. Any figures would be great!
Thanks.
I commute 60 miles a day on the interstate in my M5, averaging 80mph (usually stick with P400 mode most the trip). Get about 220-240 miles per tank like some others have said.

Thanks for all the figures and thoughts. I am looking forward to the end of April, this will be my first road trip in my M5.
I think this drive to New Mexico will be a little different from the ones in my 2500 Silverado truck!
Thanks again to everyone.
