Is it true the M5 in US
The LC is overrated IMO. I?ve only used it one time in 37.000 kms!
The M5 is no dragracer. It really shines when you are at speed. It?s a little too heavy to use as a redlight racer IMO.
If you care for your car, I think using LC too much will not be good for the diff. in the long run.

well , ive done roughly 30 LC starts on the 03 m3 coupe , and its great ... especially when you race against
a automatic 911 turbo !
besides i didnt need to use it as a used pseudo LC 99% of the time (just floor the throttle with dsc off, it
builds up to 3000 and your offffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff
), but the m5 has no such feature !so i suppose you dont care about the sluggish performance at the start ? i bet i could take you up to 50mph with the m3

Based on the tests I've seen it looks like the crippling of the LC only made .1 of a second difference on a 0-60 run (4.1 vs 4.2 if I remember correctly?). If that's true, I'd be happy with the lesser strain on the drivetrain due to the lower rpm launch as you're not going to notice the difference. Clearly the self shift capability would be missed on high speed runs (0-vmax etc) but TBH that's not something you're going to be doing every day, especially in the US.
C&D--4.2 12.5 @ 118 (US version)
R&T--4.1 12.4 115.8 (non-US version)
And, there may be a descrepancy in the R&T article. In this regard, the non-US version actually may have been slower than 12.4. Consider the more complete R&T's results below.
M6:
0-110 = 10.9
1/4 mile = 12.4 @ 118.1
0-120 = 12.7
M5:
0-110 = 11.3
1/4 mile = 12.4 @ 115.8
0-120 = 13.3
I think that the M6 really is as much as, for example, .09 quicker in the quarter than the M5. For example, maybe the M6's unrounded time was, for example, 12.35, while the M5's was, for example, 12.44--which is closer to the 1/4 time for the US version. These hypothesized values, as well as other similar ones, seem more consistent with the above data than the 12.4 values reported in R&T.
But, on the other hand, another factor to consider are the specific cars being tested. evo reports that the M5 it tested, in an effect of gasoline grade article, actually was producing about 550 HP. I would like to know how one ensures getting one of those when ordering.
I wish that could be done. I'd hate to get a Basset Hound when I could have had a Greyhound.Are the M5 engines hand built like those to the Z06's? If so, then I wouldn't think there would be that much HP variance. Hummm?
sorry for OT but check mugen power website for their
4litre naturally aspirated 596bhp MONSTER !!! at 10200rpm
i love it
the last hand built engines were of the e39 m5 ... now they are only finished by hand (as in polished)

Also the LC is not available at all until some miles, ~100, AFTER the 1200 mile service. Several m5board members have noted this both in Europe and USA. They say they try and try and then all of a sudden somewhere around 1300 miles LC is available to them - its the computer age man

I have tried some launches with DSC off and S6, and it works quite well after some practice.
Tire account will be somewhat overloaded when doing this ofcourse.....................

hmmm , really ? i tried it with an m5 (6700km) and it dint work ? yes of course it started
accelerating, but it did not wait for the revs to build up at all! :thumbsdown:
I'm new to the board and I own an 06' M5. I previously owned a 545i w/smg. The launch control on the 545i had a different procedure, that I use on my M5. My car will rev to 3500-4000 rpm before launching. It will leave two 40-50 foot tire marks and smoke all over the place. The car will shift through all the gears by itself.
Here is the procedure.
Set the M function as follows. SMG DriveLogic = D - 5
EDC = sport
DSC = off
Power = p500
Press the M button on the steering wheel
Place the SMG in D1
Press the pedal to the floor and hang on
If you don't smoke the tires and leave some good tracks do it again.
To the members that are getting 1600 rpm how are you doing that?
