i've got many friends around me who have been loaned serious cars for the day which is why i asked the dealer for the same. for instance, 1 friend got a 650i for the day, another got a Ranger Rover Sport for the day, and 1 even got an AMV8 for the day.
my dealer had NO issue what so ever with it.. i too was surprised they would let out an M5 for the day, but i wasn't about to argue
.
as for "usually let you test a approved used" .. this is normally the case .. but Sytner Group, the dealers i use, have a demo car .. it WILL eventually get released for sale as an ex-demo. it gets passed around the various dealers in that group.. this is what they are getting in for me.
M500 AED - nice purchase with your 335 .. i personally think that the new 3 coupe (esp M sport kit) is the best looking beemer currently in production.. only reason i'm not buying an M3 is i need 4 doors and the space (2 young kids, and this is daily driver).
big_ipaq - your interior is stunning.. but your comments scare me. i have 2 young children (6 & 2) that don't care much for my interior.. but i REALLY REALLY don't want black again.

not quite a 24hr drive, but the dealer called and invited me to a test drive in a used one that had just come in.
had it for an hour with him in as passenger.
MY GOD!!!!! what a car. first thing i did was to push the power button. took down the motorway and then on to some winding B roads.
so much more focused than my 545i. and the power beyond 6k rpm is just awesome. i'm totally smitten.. need one NOW!

Pleased to hear you enjoyed your test drive, albeit somewhat shorter than expected -- probably saved your licence anyway
So you found there was a big difference between the 545i and M5 -- almost sounds like the difference between the 5er and 3er, where the 3er feels more tight and direct, but in this case you still get benfits of a larger car. (And no, I'm certainly comparing an M5 with a 3er!!) I've been in the Nurburg RingTaxi E60 M5 and was amazed at what that car could do, especially in the corners! The way it accelerated and braked was also VERY impressive -- partly helped by the expert drivers and being on a race track of course.
The specs also sound great. No doubt a bit more work to keep it all clean, but when it is clean, you will have the wow effect every time you look at it
Good luck with the wait...
