My Ride: 2005 530i upgraded to 2007 550i 12/20/06
Took delivery of 2008 M5 3/25/08 cf delete K&N filters, the rest stock.
Could it be the anti-skid brake controller / valve pressurizing? This sound is the same as my 05 530, and 07/550 made. Don't think the SMG pump would
come into play with the car off. Also no need for the fuel pump to run with out starting the car, electronic controlled fuel injection, not mechanical like the old
Bosch systems from MB and VW. Just my .02 worth.

The dealer reckons its the SMG although you guys have said it happens to non-SMG cars.
Fuel pump sounds like a good explanation though.
