I recently took my M5 2 Jackie Cooper BMW and they inform me that my SMG pump was out it had locked into neutral and would not start the cost was going to be $8,500 after checking around I found a shop that took the pump out took the pump apart it has a magnetic piece inside of it once cleaned out they put it back together my car runs better than it has in years $400

Great post, thanks for sharing. I am actually considering selling my 530i later this year and upgrading to an M5. It's just a thought I'm having, we'll see if it ever actually happens. SMG pump failure is no joke. $$$$$

SMG III is superior to the older versions and more reliable. The e46 M3's SMG was very problematic, not the M5's. I love the SMG in my M5.
