I just can't warm up to the Hartges, in fact I wouldn't be caught dead in them.? To me, they are way over the top.? Plus they are quite heavy, over 35 lbs each, so they will certainly not improve the performance of the car.? And the fake fasteners make them look cheap.? Just goes to show you, lots of different takes on what makes a good looking wheel...

I was beginning to think I was the only one that didn't think highly of them.
Only speaking from a cosmetic point of view (I didn't even realize they were 35lbs each, ouch!), I like the wheel center but not flushed with the lip. I prefer a deep dish look with a polished lip. Of course, the front wheels will have less of a lip to leave enough clearance for the big calipers. I also don't like the housing around the rivets like what Hartge did with this wheel. I'll take them with the standard rivets to give it the traditional 3-piece look.

However, this is one of the things I enjoy about this "hobby". It's still great to see many different tastes and styles.

OEM!! I don't think the BBS suit the E60, especially in M5 guise. I think the OEM/Hartge wheels compliment the bodykit and shape perfectly, looks wrong with any other aftermarket wheel.

Ok, well I mean the original wheels that come with the M5, regardless of weather they are made by BBS anyway. My argument is that the BBS style wheels below, (under the 166 wheel shown) in my opinion do not suit the E60,

I think the original 19" Style 166 wheels look the best with the M5, or the Hartge wheels such as in cidair's car.

The Hartges are 45 lbs (very heavy ) and arent forged. If you are looking for lighter wheels, look into Iforged. You can get a 2 pc 20 inch at around 31 lbs and a 3 pc at around 27 lbs. Loosing the balance on a car is relative to the wheel type you buy . BBs is unchallenged and do design most of Bmw wheels. So lighter is better .The hartges look nice but thats too much weight for this car.

The 20" BBS RS-GT's are 23 lbs with BOTH the center and rim sections forged. All other 2-piece wheels I'm aware of have forged centers, but cast rims. The rim is the most likely area to be damaged, so having forged centers/cast rims doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I'm not familiar with the Iforged wheels.

I like the look of the BBS on the Silverstone, especially with the car lowered...

We to like it don't worry Wolf. is it BS that 20"s kill the ride comfort, I am in some 20"s to and have normal sport suspension, so I know your M (5) is even stiffer, what do you ? thx for all info.

On the M5, my ride comfort is as good with the BBS wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's as it was with the OEM 19's and Conti's. One reason is the Michelin's have a smoother ride, the other is that the springs/shocks have 5lbs less per corner to move up and down over every bump. The lighter and better riding wheel/tire combo pretty much compensates for losing 1/2 inch of rubber/air between the wheel and road. When I switched to the 19's on my 545, I replaced the runflats with Goodyear F1 GS-D3's. I saved 13 lbs per corner, and the ride was immensely better.

If you get heavy 20" wheels and/or subpar tires, then yes, your ride comfort can suffer. Also if you go too big on the wheels, (lets say 21 on an M5), you will definitely get a harsher ride. If you were to go with the same tires, and the same weight wheels, you'd feel a somewhat stiffer ride.

IMHO the BBS 20 inch look great
I agree. One of the nicest wheels on the road, and certainly one of the best quality. I'm not so sure I trust that Hartge 21" setup, nor the Hamann, but the BBS is certainly on my list. Quite spendy though, at over $1k each for the 20". BTW, I know I can't be alone in thinking that the OE M5 wheel isn't that attractive.
