Agree, and good point. Where and how you loose weight is important

However if the empirical equation is kept that unsprung mass=7xsprung mass that means for every 10 kilos you loose on the brakes for instance, you loose in fact 70 kilos of sprung mass which is more important than a puney aprox. 5 kilos on the roof, be it even with the center of gravity lowered. So BMW should have started from there and then try to obtain those precious kgs and tweaks.

Ok here we go Tony. MSRP is about 1500. So plus or minus a 100 or so. I could probably bend it a little bit but I was told there's not much room too.

I was it can be used in any kind of weather.

How much are vorsteiner hoods these days, anybody know?

Looks like $2,688 for the double-sided carbon fiber; $2,203 for single-sided cf and $1,436 for DVWP.

I know the hood works in any weather, my concern is the engine bay during rain. Even with today's technology (and actually BECAUSE of today's technology and electronics), too much water in the engine compartment doesn't seem like a good idea.

So...it seems it's a nono, unless one lives in a mostly sunny area.

Rain has ZERO impact. We commissioned the Vorsteiner hood and have had it on our M5 longer then anyone (in fact we had the prototype, and yes, that is our M5 on the Vorsteiner site)


I have also had the GTR hood on my M3 for 2+ years now. Rain is not an issue. You will get almost as much water in the enginer bay with or without the vents. The stock hoods are not water tight. Also, water on TOP of the motor has ZERO negative impact, it is water IN the motor that you want to prevent, and the vents do nothing to increase that risk.

Thanks for your input Brad. I've seen many vented hoods on modified cars but had figured most of them are fair-weather machines. I understand water in the engine is what needs to be avoided. I just didn't know if excess water, from driving or sitting in the rain, in the engine bay can affect other parts of the car besides the motor.

If you've had no problems with it so far then that's definitely great info.

If anything I'd say that you're engine bay will just get a little more dirtier than normal. Besides the rain/water spots there are also dust/pollen/bugs that can get inside the vents.
