Weird - this morning when i decided i would drive the M for work today, my navi said 'insert disc'. i took the dvd out and put it back in, but still nothing. i get to the gas station, go inside for coffee n such, start the car, says 'insert disc', i remove disc and re-insert, and its all good.

then on my way home, same thing happend. removed and inserted disc all the way home. got to the driveway, and turned the car off, back on, and it was all good.

wtf.

anyone had this?

maybe a dirty drive or something is def wrong either w/ the disc, if scratched up or w/ the drive.

The dealer gave me a new disc, and that didnt fix it. i dont hear the drive working/reading like it used to. most likely the issue. i'm glad this happened before my warranty expires.

You're lucky ... that would probably cost you dearly if warranty didn't cover it!

yea dude. i think its like 6hrs of labor to reprogram at the very least.
do any aftermarket warranties cover idrive? one bmw sa told me that easycare does.
ive heard so many mixed things about easycare. on the m5board.com, a boatload of people did a groupbuy on zurich warranties, but no sa here has ever worked with them so it worries me a bit. i gotta figure something out soon. clock is tickin on that warranty!

Yes it`s the dvd drive, it`s a common problem where the drive just fails for no reason, had mine replaced under warranty recently. A new drive is around £400 in the UK.

BMW now supplies a rebuild unit.. 65839241764 and it is around 90-100 Euro.
You need to pay a deposit until you return the old drive..
