I don't get it. Post #1 says that BMW engineers expect about 8 minutes for the M6 if unrestricted.
What's to get? That's faster then the sl isn't it?

Right, I couldn't figure out what you speculated on that has implications beyond the engineers' speculations. That is, you speculated that the M6 would be faster than the SL 55 tested, but this speculation already was implied by the engineers' speculation about an eight minute time for the M6. But, now we know that the MB was unrestricted. Still, the engineers' speculations imply that the M6 is quicker--whether or not the MB was restricted. So, I can't figure out why you said: "I hate to say it to all...told u! Even by speculating i was closer to the truth...again. w00t.gif Coincidence? Yeah right..."

I didn't know what engineers thought or said, i didn't know either of the new facts that guffit posted. I just followed my logic and intuition and experience to tell that the m6 can be faster than the sl. Earlier on before guffit posted i got criticised that i keep arguing alone with everybody else that the m6 is faster on a track then the sl...and now we got the prove and the facts. I said again by specualting because you do remember the discussion with that korean modded porsche turbo that smoked an e46 m3 and an e60 m5. There i speculated again not knowing too much about porsche aftermarket figures and well outputs and yet i was closer to the truth, to the real facts AND in that case also i got falmmed of speculating and not knowing what i was talking about.

I see--understand what you are saying. We still have to be patient in declaring a winner, however, since nothing actually has been proved yet. So far the SL 55 is the faster of the two on the basis ot the Ring evidence--although, yes, it is reasonable to speculate that the M6 would be faster regardless of whether the SL 55 is restricted or not. But, on the other hand, the BMW engineers have a vested interest in speculating that the M6 can do 8 minutes. If the M6 can only do 3 secs faster unrestricted, then its a tie. And, IMO, most knowledgeable auto folks would say that a second or so one way or the other on two single laps is far from definitive. Regardless, I hope we get to see an unrestricted M6 on the Ring soon.

Got it. I assume you mean that the SL55 tested was the old kompressor design and weight. Thanks.

Ok, we are talking about the current sl or what? What sl made that time? Old one right...? So why do we talk about the new one? Did it record a lap time? No?
With all that extra torque and the merc can merly keep up...assuming that the new one will be faster by a mere 2-3 seconds...with 200 NM more... 200? On that basis znod 2-3 seconds aren't relative also... Man i tell you that on a track 2-3 seconds count...hell if you're proffesional about it and you should know that, even 10th of a second count. That's the difference between winning or loosing. Does that count?

same way a derestricted m6 has not recorded a time. And keeping up is subjective. In a straight line it is quicker than the m6 after you reach 200km/h

190nm more, and now 220nm more

but it weighs an extra 190kg

Whoa guys let's not get into an argument based on speculation. Nothing is "proved" until the runs are done--and more definitively after multiple runs are done--with paired runs done on the same day under the same weather conditions using excellent drivers. And, to clarify, what I said is "IMO, most knowledgeable auto folks would say that a second or so one way or the other on two single laps [done on different days, etc.] is far from definitive."
