There was a story on the Tampa Bay Times as well that has a picture in the front that shows the car - that if you didn't know it was a fully functioning car earlier you'd think it's debris at a junk yard.

Picture attached.

If you have teenagers, know teenagers or were once a teenager, this is a gut-wrenching story. It took me days to get it out of my system.

Me too -- and now that we've had a bump in this thread, it's going to take some more days...

Me too, Rudy. This story made me realize I should share with other parents on these forums what I have done with my daughter's car. See the link below for a thread I started at Bimmerfest. My guess is the more mature members here will more readily understand why I think this is a good idea, though maybe not necessary for all parents.

My mistake! Sorry for the bad link. This worked in the test forum:

I get a chuckle out of some of the replies over there: "I don't mean to tell you how to parent, but I am going to anyway...."

I can see how the tracking device can be controversial and I personally am on the fence about whether or not it's a good idea. Tracking kids with a GPS device clearly has both pros and cons but I think it still comes down to many other variables/factors and only a parent can decide what's the best approach for their kids.

As far as prevention of the Ocala M5 tragedy, in case anyone missed my idea about a possible solution, take a look at this post from another thread:
