Humm at first I thought that the battery might be weak from sitting at the dealer lot but I'm doubting that now... the car sounds weak when starting / cranking the car... it always starts up but it sounds weak, like barely enough to start. It doesnt sound like my 545 where it basically rumbles to start...
I Never really paid attention to other M5s or had the chance but something makes me think mine sounds weaker than normal.
Anyone have any insight on how it should sound during start up?

yeah it should start up right away. i brought my M6 in for the same reason and they replaced it under warranty, along with the key fob battery.

It starts up every time but just sounds weak.

The description of your M5's ''weak'' startup/cranking reminded me of my first impression when I got mine. My 550 sounded stronger as the engine cranked; the M5 sounds much quieter. Normal IMO. What matters more is the ROAR once startup ends (and all the evil eyes from your neighbors because of the loud cold start)!

So from what you said it makes me feel a little better, I wasnt sure if I wanted to take it to the dealer if it starts fine but "sounds" weak... But I also didnt want to wait till the battery died and leaves me stranded if that was the case...

Hummm thanks. After it starts up it has a nice burble from the exhaust... but there isnt a "ROAR" after the cranking... like what I would expect... I expect crank + Roar, but what i get is crank + "just enough power to start" (*it starts every time though*)

how is the weather by you? just an fyi, cold starts are really roaring, and perhaps nicer weather gives a bit less, but it should roar no doubt

I wouldn't worry about it one bit. After the cranking phase, the exhaust should be letting out a loud resonance followed by the characteristic 'diesel'-like ticking from the engine while cold-idling. If you're really concerned, why not post a YouTube video of a cold startup? That way, we can give you feedback whether the sounds coming from your M5 are normal (or not).
