I know it may not be possible, but had to ask. Can the soft close door feature be retrofitted in the E60 545?

My dealer sent me the M5 product info guide in the mail yesterday--it's very informative. It's not a customer document, but for sales training.

I doubt too many people cross shop the F430 and the M5. Maybe Jon D.

I would... eh who am I kidding... I'll take the M5 before the F430.

So true.
It is filled with enough info on the M5 that you would know it so well before you would ever see one.

The guide lists a compression ratio of 12 : 1. Will pump gas (93 octane in US) be sufficeint to get all of the power out of the engine? Seems to be pushing the envelope of pump gas.

BMW states you need to use 98 RON (94 octane) to achieve the 'nominal' performance from the engine. 93 octane probably won't be much different. The M5 uses ionic current sensing to detect pre-detonation and retard the timing. I imagine this would happen more often with 93 than with 94, but it's hard to say how much of an effect it will have on performance. It does sound from the BMW literature that 91 octane will not achieve the same performance.

I would see if you really notice a difference between 91 and 94 octane. If you don't then I wouldn't worry about it. If you do, you can look into some of the octane booster products.
