I remember the Z8's $25K mark-up sometime back. Not many of them were sold.

$25 K mark up is 25% of the car cost? That's insane.

I was told (have not verified this) that the first Z8 in the states was sold for 300K during the .com boom. Again I was just told this.

They won't markup an M5 25% at a BMW dealer.

That's ridiculous.

$100,000 out the door, for loaded M5... that's my guess.

Actually, the Z8's sold very well and kept their value b/c of the limited production--I was just offered 101k for my '01 with 15k miles on it. Conversely, I have a friend who has an '05 Porsche 997s, fully loaded, stickered for 101k and can only get 75k for the car he got six months ago--It only has 4k miles on it.

Just as important as whether the M5 will have an MSRP of $82K or $88K, is what will be included as standard, and what will be options? If they market it like the E39 M5, with just about every option standard, that will probably push the price towards $90K. If they market a 'stripper' version, we could see something close to $80K. Either way, I agree that after options, taxes and fees, the US price out the door will be around $100K.
