just did a search on autotrader.com and found 47 M5's for sale

Many seem to be at dealers. I wonder if they all thought they could "scalp" them and have had no takers... If so, it serves them right..

I would be nervous that someone has "hammered" the car during the breakin period...

Just thought this was very interesting....

Cheers,

"Serves them right" is what I was thinking too!

I would never buy a car with a dealer mark-up or "premium". Especially when there are other dealers to choose from...and if you wanted to buy something different altogether, you've got a HUGE selection to choose from when you've got $90,000 USD to spend.

100% agree. $20K mark-up would make BMW doomed. Remember Z8, it was like $20K to $25K mark-up during dot-com era. Look and see if Z8 has strong sale? BMW needs to do something about it or they'll be another doom. I'd never buy a car even at MSRP.
A few thing consider before buying M5:
1. Gas consumption is like a truck
2. Low-end torque which is for daily driving
3. Mark-up price
4. Low oil filter in stock Insane.
With $100K, I'd have a wide range of cars.

So much for the sales speak of "limited edition". I have heard that from every sales person I have spoken to. Over 1000 cars in the first two months in USA. Seems like LA is the only market getting a premium.

[/quote]No premium or MSRP for me either. And, no first year cars for me. Of the things mentioned above about the M5, the one that bothers me the most is its lack of torque for city driving--given 500 HP. And, no one has mentioned the watered-down launch contol. The only way I could get seriously interested in the car would be as a second-year car at a deep discount off MSRP.

All who have purchased M5's please understand that I do like the M5. It has great merit, and it looks great. But, for me, its as said above. The car just doesn't quite get it for me on all fronts. And, for 90k, I want to score in everyway that is important to me.

Cheers,
Is the mileage indicated on any of them? And, are any being offered over MSRP?

Actually the Z8 still does command a premium, even in the used car market. Most still go for upwards of 100k ... if you can find one. Only 5000+ ever made.

As I recall, the Z8 MSRP was ~$125K, and initially the market was hot and there were big premiums, but the bottom fell out fast and hard. Last year when I was looking for my car, I saw one at Stevens Creek (brand new, I believe a 2003) that they were trying to sell fo MSRP. How does that translate to them commanding a premium, even in the used car market? Here's a bunch on eBay...not at a premium by any means...
