I have an 04 530 that just hit 90k miles and no problems with it at all.. but I am looking at a 05 M5 for $40K. what can I expect from the M5 when it hits 100k miles? Is this a nightmare in the works? Is this car notorious for computer/engine problems?

Thanks!

An M5 with that many miles is rare. I wouldn't expect a lot of folks around here to have first hand experience. BMW's are traditionally very solid vehicles for many years, but no one really knows if the e60 M5 will live up to this reputation.

If you can get an extended warranty, that will help. Otherwise, budget for some repairs as you would for any out of warranty vehicle and expect to pay a premium because it's an M.

BTW, An 05... you must be in Europe?

M5 is made to be driven hard. Because of that, its difficult to say what would happen as it ages. You need to find out more about the history and its previos owner(s), if you can. Better yet, bring someone who has knowledge about BMW with you to check out the car. Good luck with you decision
