Default Help: advice on buying 2006 M5

All,

I'm looking at purchasing a 2006 M5. It is very well equipped with 58,000 miles. It has the SMG transmission. What should I be looking for or what should I be concerned about with this vehicle?

Any advice, suggestions, or comments would be appreciated.

Thanks!

If it's the one with extended leather make sure the dash isn't falling apart. Other then that take it to the local BMW dealer for a PPI report then it should tell you if it's worth it or not! goodluck

I just bought a 2006 myself. Reading forums for potential problems and the related repair costs is not for the faint of heart. The SMG and Vanos were/are my biggest concerns. I would check the service history, and have the car inspected thoroughly.

Happy hunting!

Thanks gents, I passed up the one I posted about. The seller wouldn't let me test drive it and said the PPI should be sufficient for its driveability. I ran.

I found another with about 46k miles and very well equipped. It's at a BMW dealership, and the sales representative said it passed inspection and is in perfect working order. They've also included a 60 day warranty. Should I still try to have it inspected at another dealer? The vehicle was serviced their its entire life. And my main concern, the SMG, he says is perfect and passed inspection. Thoughts?

I would make sure you get a warranty with whatever you get. Often times credit unions can have warranties added on which are usually pretty decent.

That sucks about the first one, but the second one if it's from a BMW dealer kindly ask them to provide you with a PPi Report for your after market warranty purchase.

If they make you pay for it, still do it because that's the only way you will know if it's a clean car and you will need to it purchase your after market warranty.

If you need a aftermarket warranty I have a connection to a good deal on the Fidelity one so feel free to PM me for more info!

Mines for sale if you're interested. Its an 08' with a 6spd manual transmission so you can dont have to risk the SMG failure occuring.
