Someone posted about this car on another site...

Here is my response again

I had this car PPI'd at Independent imports in Provo, UT. I had a lengthy thread hile ago. I'll dig it up for you.

Watch out. I dealt with the Ken Garff people, and they were not very kind. First, they have no idea what type of car this is. Second, there are some major issues with it. The airbag light is on! I asked if any check engine lights or warning messages were active, they said "No." But the airbag light is on, broken airbag module. One wheel is bent. Tires are balding, brakes are shot.

Car is in great cosmetic shape, wonderful interior, paint is nice, no accidents they could find, no frame damage. Clutch feels good, shifts nice. Moral of the story is, a good car, and if you get the right price, it could be a wonderful deal. They had it listed at $36,500, and the best they were willing to do for me was 35,500. That was 4 months ago. You should be able to get them to go low, they have money tied up in this thing and I'm sure they need to move it.

PM me or email me jpasiczn @ gmail . com and I'll send you the repair order from Independent Imports

John

Got the results back from the PPI. First, to ANY board members in the SLC/Provo area, stop going where you have been for service, and start going to Independent Import Service in Provo. They are awesome. Matt is a very thorough, nice, honest person to deal with. He took the car in, spent at least an hour and a half with it, then spent another 30 minutes on the phone with me going over every single item they found. Emails back and forth, and now we have a final assessment.

Overall, the car is clean and in good cosmetic shape. The silverstone interior is not stained, no rips or tears in the leather. Leather still has that nice firm look to it. Exterior is in good shape also, no curb rash on any wheel, two small imperfections, one on the top edge of the rear bumper, and another scrape about 1 inch long along the thing leading edge of the driver door only visible when opened. Also, the small diffuser trim piece on the rear bumper is missing (oops).

The engine feels strong to him, transmission shifted great. No signs of clutch judder or wear. No bangs into gear. They service all the Dinan cars in Utah, and have had 3 S3 strokers go through there, so I trust his assessment that the cars drives well.

Now the bad, because there always is a downside.
1. Airbag control module faulty. The SRS indicator on the dash is on due to a faulty module
2. Engine control unit software is out of date. Current version is from September 2005, I understand it will take ~10 hours and cost $300 to update software at a dealer.
3. Front tires are worn, with one down to the cords. Rear tires are ~50% life. Front and rear tires are mismatched.
4. Spark plugs are past due to be serviced. 40k on the car.
5. 1 front wheel is bent. He thinks it can possibly be repaired, but may need replacement.
6. There is a coolant leak detected of unknown origin. It will require labor to diagnose and unknown amount of work to correct.
7. There is a slight wobble from front end, most likely due to both a warped rotor and worn out thrust arm bushings; he believes it may be possible to turn the rotor and salvage its remaining life. If not, both front rotors would require replacement.
8. All 4 brake pads are down to their last 40%
9. Rear bumper splitter is missing and needs to be replaced
10. Difficulty opening 2 of 4 power windows.
11. 2789 Catalytic converter conversion bank 1and bank 2 value about threshold, not currently present.
12. Transmission code 4F40 Hydraulic unit undershooting or pressure range, not currently present. Transmission code 5002 selector lever, not currently present.

So there are some issues, a little concerned about the Cat codes and transmission codes. They are not present currently, so he did not want to try and guess what they were coming from. All he knew was the car had passes emissions, and was shifting fine.
The other issues are things that I think if taken care of by dealer will make the car worth what they want. Got the estimate for all the work, it will be ~$4000 without replacing the tires. I just forwarded the estimate to the dealer, and told them to come up with a plan of how they want to take care of this and make a deal happen. I have my own ideas, but want to see what they say first.
