Default E60 M5 Winter Wheel Fitment

I found a set of 18x8.5 et 38 wheels/tires for sale locally. The tires are the proper 245/45/18 I am just not sure of the wheel fitment? I know Tirerack recommends an 18x8 et 20 wheel. The extra 18 mm puts the wheel .7" closer to the suspension. Does the extra 1/2" wheel width then leave the wheel about .2" closer? Will that fit or will I need spacers?

I am not exactly sure how that works and am looking for confirmation one way or the other. Thanks in advance

You'll need spacer that big/high offset number is more of xi/AWD fitment ... 'cuz not only the clearance to the suspension you may have to check the clearance of the wheel spoke to stuff like the brake caliper.
